Season's Greetings!
Let’s make some no sew or sew optional fabric gift tags using motif fabric and cookie cutters. Follow along with the photos and instructions or skip straight to the video.
While these gift tags really can be super a super easy no-sew project, you can dress them up with your sewing machine and some grommets.
First, gather your supplies:
Motif Fabric | Muslin/Plain Fabric | Cookie Cutters |
Pen/Pencil | Double-sided Interfacing | Ribbon |
Single Hole Punch | Iron | Pressing Cloth |
Pinking Shears | Scissors or Rotary Cutter |
|
Optional but fun!
Grommets | Sewing Machine |
Let's get snewing - (no + sewing)
1. Cut some shapes from your motif fabric using a ruler or freehand. We'll use pinking shears on them at the end.
Alternatively, trace your cookie cutter shapes onto plain fabric.
2. Cut a strip from your double-sided interfacing (I used Pellon 82) that matches the height of your motifs.
Layer motif fabric on top, interfacing in the middle, and plain or colored fabric on the bottom.
Use a hot, dry iron over a pressing cloth on both sides of your fabric sandwich. Let cool.
3. Let Cool. Cut around the outside edges with pinking shears and use a single hole punch to make a hole and thread a ribbon through.
Options!
Use grommets and/or sew around the outside edges with a zig zag or other decorative stitch!
Personalize your ornaments by writing on the back for gift tags or give a stack as gifts!
